Shortly after separating from the other vessels, the Mistral collided with the deck barge Packmore 4000 under tow by the tug Tiger Shaman. The Mistral was destroyed upon impact and its occupants were thrown into the water. The crew of the tug recovered 12 survivors. One person drowned
