On 9/23/2001 , the vessel ALMAK (Official Number 11012) was involved in a striking - allision with a fixed object (striking - includes berthed/docked vessels) in MCGEE'S WALL - BELOW LOCK 8 WELLAND CANAL, ONT., ONTARIO (ON).
The vessel, with 22 persons on board, experienced the incident while engaged in regular operations. Fortunately, the ship was able to continue its voyage. No injuries or fatalities were reported, and there was none pollution.
This incident was officially recorded by Transport Canada on 10/10/2001. Weather at the time was reported as fog with winds from the W at 4.00 knots.
On 23 September 2001, the port quarter of the upbound gasoline tanker "ALMAK" struck the east wall below Lock8 at 0752. Starboard bow then struck the west wall. Visibility was estimated at 30-100m. V/L sustained some shipside damage
