On 2/12/1999 , the vessel CARIA (Official Number 90054) was involved in a total failure of any machinery or technical system in 20 MILES WEST OFF CAPE COOK, VANCOVER I., B.C., BRITISH COLUMBIA (BC).
The vessel, with 19 persons on board, experienced the incident while engaged in regular operations. Fortunately, the ship was able to continue its voyage. No injuries or fatalities were reported, and there was pollution.
This incident was officially recorded by Transport Canada on 3/16/1999 . Weather at the time was reported as with winds from the SE at 55.00 knots.
Main engine stalled. Fuel found in cooling system. Vessel drifting, in danger of running aground. SAR resources tasked. Vessel towed to Port Hardy Bay, B.C., effected repairs and departed for Japan on 14 Feb. 1999.
