On 4/28/2021 , the vessel JOHN CABOT (Official Number 843969) was involved in a total failure of any machinery or technical system in St. John's, NEWFOUNDLAND AND LABRADOR (NL).

On 28 April 2021, the Canadian Coast Guard Ship "JOHN CABOT" reported experiencing a catastrophic failure of its starboard variable frequency drive, rendering the starboard drive inoperable while maneuvering to dock at Pier #28 in St. John's Harbour, NL. The vessel was able to complete the maneuver using its port drive. The failure did not require any fire suppression and there were no related injuries.. Damage to the vessel was indicated as MAJOR
