On 28 April 2021, the Canadian Coast Guard Ship "JOHN CABOT" reported experiencing a catastrophic failure of its starboard variable frequency drive, rendering the starboard drive inoperable while maneuvering to dock at Pier #28 in St. John's Harbour, NL. The vessel was able to complete the maneuver using its port drive. The failure did not require any fire suppression and there were no related injuries.
