On 5/30/1997 , the vessel NORTHERN TUGGER (Official Number 819093) was involved in a total failure of any machinery or technical system in 5.2 CABLES NORTH-EAST OF RAMEA, NEWFOUNDLAND.,.
The vessel, with 6 persons on board, experienced the incident while engaged in regular operations. Fortunately, the ship was able to continue its voyage. No injuries or fatalities were reported, and there was none pollution.
This incident was officially recorded by Transport Canada on 6/2/1997 7. Weather at the time was reported as clear with winds from the SW at knots.
Tug towing dredge/barge lost power when close to shore. Let go anchor which held the tug secure. Unable to prevent barge "William B. Dilly" from grounding. Both tug and barge subsequently secured at Ramea. (see 26154)
