On 9/27/1996 , the vessel MISS SHANNON (Official Number 810429) was involved in a sank - founders (taking on water above the waterline) in 21 MILES NORTH OF SCATERIE ISLAND, NS.,.

The vessel, with 0 persons on board, experienced the incident while engaged in regular operations. Fortunately, the ship was able to continue its voyage. No injuries or fatalities were reported, and there was pollution.

This incident was officially recorded by Transport Canada on 4/9/1997 1. Weather at the time was reported as clear with winds from the NNE at 20.00 knots.

While en route to crab-harvesting grounds northeast of Glace Bay, the "MISS SHANNON" was swamped when she shipped a heavy sea. The vessel lost reserve buoyancy, quickly turned upside down and settled by the stern. There was no time for the crew to don life jackets or to call for assistance. Two of the crew of three lost their lives.
