The "ATLANTIC HEMLOCK" and "ATLANTIC TAMARACK" were transiting the Canso locks northbound with the barges "CRANEMASTER" and "H.D. 6". The "CRANEMASTER" struck the canal wall's west roundhead, puncturing it's hull above the waterline.
