The vessel, with 6 persons on board, experienced the incident while engaged in regular operations. Fortunately, the ship was able to continue its voyage. No injuries or fatalities were reported, and there was minor pollution.
This incident was officially recorded by Transport Canada on 6/24/1997 . Weather at the time was reported as fog with winds from the SW at 15.00 knots.
Whilst enroute to the fishing grounds a fire broke out in the engine room. The 6 crew were forced to abandon ship into an 18' skiff. The crew landed in Alliston and called MRSC St. John's. No mayday sent due to the rapid spread of the fire.
