On 7/6/2002 1, the vessel SCAN GERMANIA (Official Number 733802) was involved in a striking - allision with a fixed object (striking - includes berthed/docked vessels) in CN BRIDGE, RICHELIEU RIVER, SOREL, QUEBEC (QC).
The vessel, with 15 persons on board, experienced the incident while engaged in regular operations. Fortunately, the ship was able to continue its voyage. No injuries or fatalities were reported, and there was none pollution.
This incident was officially recorded by Transport Canada on 7/8/2002 8. Weather at the time was reported as clear with winds from the SW at 6.00 knots.
On 6 July 2002, the Scan Germania, with the assistance of two tugs and while backing out of the Richelieu River struck the old CN rail bridge. Damage to the vessel was minor. The bridge was knocked off its swing moorings.
