On 9/25/2009 , the vessel PETERSFIELD (Official Number 708312) was involved in a grounding - under power (non-intentional) in DOUGLAS CHANNEL, BC, BRITISH COLUMBIA (BC).

The vessel, with 26 persons on board, experienced the incident while engaged in regular operations. Fortunately, the ship was able to continue its voyage. No injuries or fatalities were reported, and there was none pollution.

This incident was officially recorded by Transport Canada on 9/28/2009 . Weather at the time was reported as clear with winds from the W at 30.00 knots.

On 25 September 2009, at 2246 Pacific Daylight Time, the open hatch bulk carrier Petersfield experienced a malfunction of its gyro heading feed and struck the west shore of Douglas Channel, B.C. The vessel sustained extensive damage to its bulbous bow, forepeak and collision bulkhead. There were no injuries or pollution and the vessel returned to Kitimat, B.C. under its own power.
