On 4/3/1998 1, the vessel NARWHALE (Official Number 247862) was involved in a fire in ENTRANCE ISLAND, GEORGIA STRAIT, B.C.,.

The vessel, with 5 persons on board, experienced the incident while engaged in regular operations. Fortunately, the ship was able to continue its voyage. No injuries or fatalities were reported, and there was minor pollution.

This incident was officially recorded by Transport Canada on 4/29/1998 . Weather at the time was reported as clear with winds from the W at 15.00 knots.

Tug while towing barge became engulfed in fire. Tug subsequently burnt to water line and sank. Barge apparently not damaged and towed to Nanaimo. Fire origin unknown.
